THE HISTORY BEHIND THE FILM
Lingerfelt wrote the screenplay in 2015, with the original title being, Not Another Love Story! but he later changed it because numerous films had used that name. He analyzed a handful of famous romantic films, created a romantic film that borrowed heavily from those, and then layered it with the dumbest humor he could imagine. After that, for ideas, he watched classic farce comedy films and popular, long-running, comedic television shows.
He'd written and directed his first documentary in 2006 at age 26 about a street kids rehab center in Kumulu, Kenya. The documentary won the Lily Endowment and was used in a number of universities across the States including Pepperdine and Princeton. He wrote and directed his first short film in 2014, a drama titled, Summer Leaves. And another short film in 2021, a comedy titled, How To Lose Weight Over The Weekend. Both films were accepted in seven international film festivals.
Ready to make his first feature, he didn't want to make a horror film as most first time filmmakers do,. Horrors don't require great sets or good acting because the entertainment is in the chase. He believed with decent talent, a farce comedy would work similarly, since the entertainment would be in the comedic delivery.
Wanting good people who could also act, he used referrals to find most cast and crew. Through Backstage (a database to find models and actors/actresses) he found Haley Weber and Avery Kellington, who were currently living in Atlanta.
Filming began in Winter 2021 and lasted two years because they filmed only on weekends since everyone had full-time jobs. To keep costs low, they filmed with iPhone 13 Pros, used natural lighting during the day and lit night sets with Chinese ball lanterns.
